چکیده

Following a meeting at Sapporo, Japan, an international consensus statement on preliminary classification criteria for definite anti-phospholipid syndrome was published.1 This set of criteria is divided into the clinical part which includes vascular thrombosis and pregnancy morbidity and the laboratory part which includes anti-cardiolipin (aCL) antibody and lupus anti-coagulant tests. Diagnosis of APS is considered definite if a patient has at least 1 clinical and 1 laboratory criteria. The latter should be positive for at least 2 times 6 weeks apart so that transient occurrence of anti-phospholipid antibodies are not included.

Anticardiolipin and anti-ß2-glycoprotein 1 in Omani patients with anti-phospholipid syndrome

Studies have shown that plasma glycoprotein with phospholipid-binding property is required for ACA., to bind to cardiolipin that has been coated onto plastic plates. This cofactor has been identified as β2-glycoprotein 1 (β2GPl). Later, it was found that β2GPl is indeed the antigen to which many ACA patients are actually binding and the phospholipid merely serves to link the β2GPl to the solid ...

[Antibodies to beta2-glycoprotein I, autoimmunity and atherosclerosis].

Beta2-glycoprotein I (beta2-gpI) is a phospholipid cofactor with anticoagulant properties. A number of biological functions in the coagulation cascade have been attributed to this cofactor. Sera from patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) frequently react to beta2-gpI in immunoassays. Occasionally, patients with thrombotic diathesis present anti-beta2-gpI antibodies in the absence of oth...

Endothelial cell activation by antiphospholipid antibodies is modulated by Kruppel-like transcription factors.

Antiphospholipid syndrome is characterized by thrombosis and/or recurrent pregnancy loss in the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (APLAs). The majority of APLAs are directed against phospholipid-binding proteins, particularly β₂-glycoprotein I (β₂GPI). Anti-β₂GPI antibodies activate endothelial cells in a β₂GPI-dependent manner through a pathway that involves NF-κB. Krüppel-like factors (...

Anti-beta2-glycoprotein I antibodies as risk factors for acute myocardial infarction.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether high levels of antibodies against the phospholipid beta2-glycoprotein I (beta2-gpI) cofactor are associated with an increase in the risk of acute myocardial infarction. METHODS The study comprised 82 patients with acute myocardial infarction and 82 controls, who were assessed in regard to age, sex, race, hypertension, smoking, previous heart disease, history of ...

Interaction of anti-phospholipid antibodies with late endosomes of human endothelial cells.

Anti-phospholipid antibodies (APLAs) are associated with thrombosis and/or recurrent pregnancy loss. APLAs bind to anionic phospholipids directly or indirectly via a cofactor such as beta(2)-glycoprotein 1 (beta(2)GPI). The lipid target of APLA is not yet established. Recently, we observed that APLAs in vitro can bind lysobisphosphatidic acid (LBPA). The internal membranes of late endosomes are...
